Land conservation
The program:
We promote the voluntary protection and sustainable management of priority ecosystems in Baja California Sur. We work alongside landowners, ejidos (communal landholdings), and rural communities to establish conservation agreements and promote responsible production models that strengthen the local economy. We believe in combining legal and social tools to achieve lasting conservation and equitable rural development.
Achievements
- 7,300 hectares conserved through various management actions in the El Portezuelo Nature Reserve, which is certified by the federal government as a Voluntary Conservation Area.
- We have enabled more than 1,000 households in communities of Sierra La Giganta to use fuel-efficient stoves and solar cookers, thus reducing firewood use by 50%, eliminating smoke inhalation in kitchens, and mitigating 1,000 tons of greenhouse gases each year.
- We support local initiatives such as the Wood Processing Center (CETRA) and the Forest Nursery in La Soledad, generating sustainable social, economic, and environmental impacts. Around 500 handcrafted products have been made from legally harvested wood, and more than 5,000 native plants have been cultivated.

Land Acquisition and Management
We acquire and manage strategic properties with high conservation value in Baja California Sur, ensuring their long-term protection under private ownership schemes dedicated to conservation.
These areas form part of essential biological corridors and habitats that connect mountain ranges, oases, and coastal zones, maintaining the ecological functionality of the territory. Through technical, legal, and social processes, we identify priority lands, evaluate threats, and finalize their purchase with philanthropic or institutional support.
Subsequently, we implement management plans, fauna monitoring, restoration, and participatory surveillance, guaranteeing effective conservation that protects unique ecosystems, endemic species, and vital water resources, while strengthening resilience against climate change.
Sustainable Rural Development Models
We strengthen the productive and organizational capacities of rural communities to boost local economies compatible with the conservation of natural resources.
Through the Sierra La Giganta Sustainable Producers Network (Productores Sustentables Sierra La Giganta), we promote added value, fair trade, and productive diversification through agroecological, beekeeping, tourism, and artisanal practices. We provide technical assistance, business training, and continuous support to connect rural products with local and regional markets.
This project demonstrates that conservation and rural well-being can advance together, generating employment, community roots, and pride while regenerating the natural environment.
Conservation Instruments: Sierra La Giganta and Guadalupe Biosphere Reserve,
and Land Use Change Committee
We promote and strengthen legal, social, and planning tools that ensure the protection of the territory and the active participation of communities in decision-making.
We promote the creation of the Sierra La Giganta and Guadalupe Biosphere Reserve and participate in the State Committee for Land Use Change (Comité Estatal de Cambio de Uso de Suelo), where we contribute technical recommendations to prevent the loss of natural habitats. Through collaboration among governments, academia, organizations, and communities, we prepare technical studies, diagnostics, and participatory workshops that strengthen territorial governance.
